Archive for Snowboarding

Yesterday was a great day. I got to ride to Tahoe with just my brother. It was nice to get to spend some time with him and talk and laugh. I enjoy him very much. He is talented, smart and funny. After he headed to work I headed to Sierra to meet up with my friend Chris who is an instructor there. He and I worked together at Tamarack and he is doing really well at his new mountain. We had a great time. The snow was epic and the company was nice too. You can’t really beat knee deep powder, an amazing mountain, a free pass and a good friend and guide for the day. There were a lot of people and we had to stand in long lines but once we got up there it was totally worth it. Chris is an amazing snowboarder and very knowledgeable. We waited all morning for a spot called “gate 5″ to open up and when it did it was worth the weight. We got to ride back country and there were very few tracks in the several feet of new snow. It was well worth the hike in and hike out. I did realize how out of shape I was though. I plan to start back to the gym next week since Mark gave me the OK to start arms and legs.

Today is our last day in California and I am sad to go back to cold Idaho. I got a little taste of home yesterday in Tahoe and it made me not want to leave the sunshine. Hopefully spring will come soon. It has been a wonderful trip and we have enjoyed every moment.

Spending time with those you care about

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve had some time to sit down and write. We have been going, going, but the fact that I feel up to going is amazing. We’ve been skiing/snowboarding when we can and I actually ran into a client of mine from Tamarack yesterday. He and his family are up here from Texas. They are a wonderful family and had no idea that I even had cancer. It always catches people off guard. When he walked up to me he said “You cut your hair” and I kind of laughed to myself. He told me that I looked great and that they would love to get a hold of me to ski with their kids again. I got to visit with his wife and kids as well. What good memories I have from that season at Tamarack and that family especially.

We went to Coeur d’ Alene to visit our friends Crystal and Rick Luna last weekend. It was a great visit. We spent the first night just laughing and visiting at her kitchen counter. Saturday we took the kids to the indoor water park, well they took them I sat and watched. That is unusual for me but this stinking ostomy keeps me from many things I love. Then Saturday night we got a sitter and went to Crystal’s dad for dinner and poker. We had a lot of fun and laughed a lot. The visit always seems too short. Crystal is someone special. She was my best friend in McCall for a while and then a job took her family up North and we haven’t gotten to see each other much since. We do the best we can to catch up on Facebook or the phone but I have decided at this point in my life the best thing to do is not procrastinate on spending time with those you care about. That is also why when I found an amazing deal on plane tickets I decided to take my girls to my brothers house for spring break. We leave on Wednesday. We are all very excited to get to be in some warm weather and be around some great family. My vitamin D counts are a very big thing for healing and this cold weather often keeps me from getting as much as I need to the temperature being in the 70′s should be great! We have plans to go to Monterrey for a couple days to celebrate Kim O’Brien(My Sister in law’s mother, who spent 10 days taking care of me after my last surgery) 50th birthday. I hear it is a beautiful there and should be nice to see the ocean again. My brother and I may take a day and see San Francisco as well. On April 1st I plan to travel over to Lake Tahoe with my brother for his job and spend the day snowboarding at Sierra. My friend Chris, who I worked with at Tamarack, is working there and said he could get me a ticket. It should be fun to see a different mountain and see a friend in the process. We fly back on Saturday, just in time for Easter Sunday. It should be a fun next couple of days getting everything together and finishing up the loose ends.

I also just started trying to learn to play ice hockey. I had never been on hockey skates in my life and looked like a total fool the first day. I am will just have to work hard and try my best. It is a great workout and a lot of fun. I think the girls might start taking lessons too. They went with me to public skate last night so that I could practice and they loved it.

Well off to spend some time with Darick while he’s home and get my house clean.

I wonder what those Dr.’s think…

Whew! 3 days in a row of snowboarding. I wonder what those Dr.’s think since they said I wouldn’t be able to function in 4 or 5 months :) I am BEAT but had a great day. Kim and I took the girls up today. It was MeKaty’s second time ever and Rilynns third. By the end of the day Mekaty had done 2 intermediate runs and Rilynn did 2 runs with me on the main hill including the terrain park. She even hit a jump and landed it. It was so fun to be able to make runs and have her enjoy it with me. It’s only the beginning of many girls ski days to come!

I went snowboarding

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Today was a fun day. I went snowboarding. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I got a little sick this afternoon and then went on to snowboard some more. The thought of throwing up keeping me down is funny to me. I have so much more to deal with than a little vomit LOL.

Driving home I had the song “I run for life” playing and I looked over and noticed my girls staring at me. They were both intensely watching me sing that song. It’s one of my favorites and they are obviously getting a lot more aware of the words. The way they were looking at me kind of broke my heart. I know they know how much I love them and they talk about when I am better and have hair again. They are such good girls and very supportive of my diet and other needs. How amazing that they would be so nurturing at such a young age.

Whew!

Whew! It’s been a busy few days. I went snowboarding Friday then went out for a friends birthday, then Saturday I worked a 9hr day at the restaurant followed by a 7hr shift. It felt so good to be working and have a goal. Off we go again.
